The Story:

This famous (and mysterious) staircase is inside the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe.   The staircase has been featured on "Unsolved Mysteries", and is the subject of the 1998 movie "The Staircase" starring Barbara Hershey and Diane Ladd.  I took the photo October 13, 2010 and didn't think about offering it for sale until the evening of April 13, 2018 when I was visiting with Dr. Bill Hoppock, a PPA member visiting Santa Fe from Los Angeles.   Bill was treating me to a fabulous dinner at Pasqual's, and I was showing him an assortment of my Santa Fe photos to give him ideas about things he might want to photograph during his visit.   When he saw this one he said "that must be one of your best sellers" and I told him I'd never thought about selling it.  He said "well, you should"!   So after about eight years I finally started showing it and it immediately became a great sales success.   It was taken without a tripod despite the low light (because tripods are not allowed in the chapel) and the painterly effects you see are from high dynamic range processing.   Thanks to Bill, for inspiring me to get this off my computer and into the galleries!   This image, by the way, absolutely must be printed on infused aluminum.
